I wonder if that's an original UK mono pressing of 'Piper At The Gates of Dawn?' If so, it's worth a few bob.

Looks like a UK/European original pressing of Paul Weller's 'Stanley Road,' as well. Brilliant album (as is 'Wild Wood')!

Given they're both tucked away behind the counter, they're on the rarer side... It looks like Piper at the Gates of Dawn is an early stereo repress (https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/2826890950). Not sure about Stanley Road, as it's not on Lisa's online listings. Agree it's a great album though - although for me, Wild Wood's just ahead!

I love Weller's version of "I Walk on Guilded Splinters."

I saw his Wild Wood and Stanley Road tours while living in London. WW was at the RAH (my first show at the hall and we were in the Grand Tier. It felt very posh!) and Stanley Road at the Brixton Academy. Two fantastic shows and two albums that to this day we regularly play in our house.

They sound like great gigs, and it's always good to see someone play at the RAH.

And I realise it's heresy to say this, but I think I prefer his version of 'I walk...' to Dr John's...

I remember the opening bands for those two Weller shows were Reef (at RAH) and Travis (Brixton Academy). The former being a Free inspired guitar riff-based band, and Travis reminding me a bit of early Coldplay (although, I think their albums probably preceded Coldplay's).

Dr. John's is so swampy and heady. Having walked the streets of New Orleans, the original exudes its thick, humid, intoxicating magic. I definitely prefer Weller's over Humble Pie's, tho!

A Showaddywaddy sighting! Holy crap, Rich! One man's uncool love is another man's "gee, I sure wish that was available in MY country!" said the Americans who never got the chance to hear them, one way or another, with no domestic record deal offered! No prob, said I, as I dutifully picked up the latest NME, Sounds, and MM at my local Houston, TX newsstand....sure, it was week-old news by the time it got off the boat!

But, that's how I caught up, early '70s (I was in high school) on not only Genesis, Bowie, T. Rex, et al (from the correspondents who would know, in their home country), but on the "mysterious" bands who had spotty to no product available, stateside (looking at you, Roy Wood & Wizzard, Mud, Arrow, Alvin Stardust, and many others)!

Speaking of Genesis, Rich, you might be interested in seeing what Peter Gabriel wrote to me (as part of his autograph) after a spring '74 show at Austin's iconic Armadillo World Headquarters! I present proof in asserting that he never wrote that to or for anybody else on the planet (this one): https://bradkyle.substack.com/p/paper-plate-peter-gabriel-offers
