It's still one of my favourite albums. I think Sure Shot and Get It Together are fighting for top spot. I remember listening to the album when I left home. In fact, I still own that copy. My brother once snuck off to London at the age of 14, to see the Boys play Brixron Academy. No idea how he got there, as we lived in Norfolk, and no idea how he threw our mother off the scent but it was well worth it.
Twas indeed. I love the mixture of genres. So many people don't realise that they were/are musicians. I love the trip back to hardcore beginnings with Tough Guy and Heart Attack Man.
Was having a bit of a lul at work earlier, so I made a coffee and listened to this. I'm a bit too young to remember when this was released (sorry), but it certainly woke me up today. Wednesday afternoon motivation, thanks for sharing!
Great video. I agree re Kamasi recent gig + Messthetics had same vibe. Musicians were clearly enjoying themselves and their energy was reciprocated by the audience. Messthetics strike me as one possible alternate reality of 'what if' BB's were still recording, although there would likely be a DJ involved.
This is one of my favorite videos on YouTube (link below). You can feel the energy in the room - the music, the audience, the band vibing off the audience. The giving and receiving from both are just perfect. It is so good that I often show it to my art students as an example of how that cross channel of energy from art, in this case, music, is so electric it can affect both the artists and the participants.
Although very different, the recent Kamasi Washington gig I saw was similar. The vibe from musicians and audience was so good you could see and feel the energy traveling through the room in a perfect symbiotic relationship of artist and audience.
That's really funny, Michael - my first version of this post included that video, but then I switched it for Letterman, as I liked the extra 1994 context. But I completely agree with everything you say - there is an intensity and symbiotic energy in that 1999 Glasgow performance of 'Sabotage' that is something else. It was a few days before the gig I went to at Wembley Arena, so pretty much the same set. Think I need to go and rewatch the whole gig now ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJYfOGb3sKw&t=26s
PS What a fine job you are doing for those students!

Exactly! It’s so hard to choose a top track off this album… so many awesome tracks. Sounds like it was a pivotal album for you too!

Haha. Coffee and Sabotage - guaranteed to get your head in gear!

I don’t know Messthetics - will check them out, thanks!
